An added attraction for our members at Maple Island is our wild goose and duck shooting. We know of no other Licensed Shooting Preserve in our area where wild fowl shooting is available. The two lakes south of the Clubhouse and various ponds throughout the property provide excellent habitat for these wild birds. The lakes have an abundance of aquatic feed, largely Sago Pondweed which we planted many years ago. By restricting the number of guns on our lakes and on the ponds, we have good wild duck shooting during the regular open season.
WILD DUCK AND GOOSE HUNTING (federal and state duck stamps required). In addition to the Minnesota Small Game License, a duck stamp is necessary to hunt wild ducks. The shooting of wild ducks is regulated by the State and Federal Games Laws and these laws must be obeyed.
In order to hunt during the special September and late December metro goose seasons, hunters need to purchase a permit from the DNR license center, an ELS license agent, or by phoning 888-665-4236.
The rate for one day of waterfowl shooting is $100 per gun per day. In order to provide the best of waterfowl shooting, we allow but one boat in each lake at one time.
